Rachel Wiley-Janota: End of the Road: Retro Galveston Lost and Found | Glasstire
Rachel Wiley-Janota’s new exhibition of mixed media paintings and found photos in “End of the Road: Retro Galveston Lost & Found," opens at Rene Wiley Gallery.
The 1950’s and 60’s were the kodachrome era of American cars, road trip vacations and motel postcards and Galveston Island has it's own place in this history. The island happens to be at the end of the road for many travelers, past and present, all headed south from the mainland to reach the Gulf of Mexico. For years Galveston artist Rachel Wiley-Janota has collected vernacular photographs, postcards and objects with this mid century aesthetic and she has reassembled them into a colorful array of mixed media paintings for her new show.
Exhibition opens with a Friday Preview with the artist on October 13, from 6-8pm and the ArtWalk Opening Reception Saturday, October 14, from 6-10pm. Exhibition closes November 20, 2017.
